The seven color image above, shows a classified
image of a small cotton field in North Alabama. The image shows
seven relative differences of vegetation in the field. The field
is irrigated with nitrogen water through a pivot irrigation
system. The field was planted
in three different cotton varieties. A classified image can be
very beneficial in this situation. Instead of making a blanket
application of a growth regulator or a defoliant over the
different varieties the grower can use this image to apply the
right amount to each of the different varieties.
In addition, the grower will be able to adjust
the rates for the weaker cotton outside the pivot. This cotton is
basically dryland cotton and will not grow as tall and bushy
compared to the cotton under the pivot.
